Massey Ferguson 100 and 1000 Tractors 1964-1988 World-Wide Guide (Book)
[10211]
AUD $85.00

This is the eighth book by John Farnworth in a series that has examined in a logical and chronological, manner the whole history of Massey Ferguson, Massey-Harris and Ferguson products. This guide to the MF 100 and 1000 series is a timely addition to his existing works as this generation become collectors tractors in their own right. They represent a golden era of Massey Ferguson in terms of design, reliability and mass appeal. Their bold new design created a loved and lasting image of this era and MF itself. In them Massey Ferguson created a range of tractors from about 20-200hp with all types of chassis combinations - 2 WD, 4 WD, crawlers and articulated. Production of these tractors was very much a trans-Atlantic affair. They were made or assembled in the USA, South America and several European and other countries.

Using Massey Ferguson archive material collected from around the world, John has carefully identified some 250 models and variants including some four wheel drive conversions, and painstakingly organised them in an orderly manner for easy reference. Each type is described in terms of its specifications and with a photograph. The origin of each model is also noted together with the source of data. This vast array of models and variants indicates the lengths to which Massey Ferguson went to satisfy highly individual markets around the world. However this World-Wide Guide goes much further than model identification and description.

There are major chapters that variously look at how the tractors were launched, used and sold around the world. Three are written by ex MF employees and one is by John himself reporting on his own experiences with them. Another deals with how Massey Ferguson expanded their overseas production by establishing a Special Operations Unit; and one describes how the MF Hi, 100 and 1130 tractors were described and explained to farmers, dealers, maintenance and distributor personnel. They bring the whole era to life.

John is to be congratulated on yet another major and definitive work. It will be of great interest to tractor enthusiasts and collectors, and agricultural machinery historians alike around the world. It is a truly classic work about what have now become a generation of truly classic tractors. Everyone on each side of the Atlantic, and indeed around the world, will delight in reading the book, such is the diversity of material presented.
