Ford Tractor Story Part One
AUD $0.00

Although Henry Ford is best known for his achievements in the motor car industry, his roots lay in agriculture, and one of his most cherished aims was to bring affordable machine power to the world's farms. This book traces the fulfilment of that dream, starting with the early experiments that in 1917 led to the Model F at Dearborn, the world's first mass-produced tractor. Stuart Gibbard's absorbing text is accompanied by a wealth of photographs, many rare and previously unseen. It follows the development of the Fordson through the Model N and the E27N to the widely successful Diesel Major and its little brother, the Dexta. The author's meticulous research provides one of the most detailed accounts ever written about Fordson production in Britain. It covers both Cork and Dagenham, and makes full mention of the personalities involved. One of the outstanding aspects of the book is that many of the little-known prototypes are described and shown for the first time. A major section of the book is devoted to the American tractor line, re-established in 1939 with the 9N built in collaboration with Hany Ferguson. The book concludes in 1964, just before the introduction of the 'worldwide' 6X range. A companion volume will complete the story to the present day.
