Massey-Harris-Ferguson, Memories of the founding of Massey Ferguson 1953-1958 (Book) AUD $79.95

In producing this history of the Massey-Harris-Ferguson period John Farnworth has produced a unique piece of farm mechanisation history.  Not only does it review the "goings on" during one of the largest company mergers between coporate giant Massey-Harris and tractor design supreme Harry Ferguson, but it does so through the memories of people who were involved with the two companies before, during and after the event.  As John points out, sadly some of the contributors have now passed away and this make the memories even more treasured in as much as it is now over half a century since the merger.

John has managed to obtain memories from around the globe that will make it all the more valuable to farm machinery historians and enthusists world-wide.  Many contributors provided their own photographs, and these have been lavishly supplemented with information captioned archive photographs to total some 500.

The book is full of tit bits of information about the period, its events and products.  The book starts by noting what the merger meant to him in his youth and then reviews the background to the two companies.  There follows an overview of the actual merger and a summary of how the company developed from 1953-1958.  Finally the main part of the book is devoted to the memories of 46 people who were involved with the company as Massey-Harris-Ferguson came to be Massey-Ferguson.

This is John's ninth book on the history of Massey and Ferguson and is delightfully different to the previous ones.  It will appeal to both the Massey "red" and the Ferguson "grey" camps for the wealth of new information presented in both the text and photos.  It is appropriate that it is being published in the 50th anniversary period of the five years of Massey-Harris-Ferguson.
